1917 AUTOPED SCOOTER ORIGINAL UNRESTORED

THE SAME AS USED AT ONE TIME BY THE US POST OFFICE! MANUFACTURED BY EVEREADY, THE SMITHSONIAN HAS ONE BUT IT ISN'T FOR SALE. CHARLIE MANTHOS  OF THE INDIAN MUSEUM IN SPRINGFIELD TOLD ME HE LOOKED FOR DECADES BEFORE HE FOUND ONE AND IT WASN'T NEAR WHAT THIS ORIGINAL BEAUTY IS.  IN FACT IT STILL HAS THE REMAINS OF THE ORIGINAL ORANGE TIRES AND ORANGE GRIPS ALTHOUGH THE TIRES ARE SHOT AS YOU CAN IMAGINE BEING 97 YEARS OLD. . THIS ONE ALSO HAS BATTERY ASSIST STARTING AND THE ORIGINAL TAIL LIGHT. ALSO THE ORIGINAL IGNITION KEY, LOOKS IDENTICAL TO THE MID TEENS HENDERSON IGNITION LIGHTING KEY. WHOEVER REMOVED THE REAR TIRE DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND DAMAGED THE REAR RIM . ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE AN EASY REPAIR. ENGINE TURNS WITH COMPRESSION AND APPEARS UNMOLESTED, NO BROKEN FINS,  ORIGINAL SPARK PLUG  AND WIRING ETC. CHECK OUT THE GREAT PERIOD PICTURES AND  ADVERTISING .  EVEN THE U.S.A. POSTAL SERVICE USED THEM, INCLUDED IN THE SALE IS AN ORIGINAL BEAUTIFUL SALES CATALOGUE  WHICH IS PROBABLY MORE RARE THAN THE SCOOTER ITSELF. THE AUTOPED IS REGARDED BY HISTORIANS AS THE WORLD'S FIRST PRODUCTION SCOOTER.
