## How I screened these seven down

I worked from published listing data only: the specification tables, the manufacturer's own feature claims, and where each product sits on price and popularity inside this set. No lab, no field trial. What that gets you is a clean read on which numbers the brands are willing to print.

Screening ran in three passes.

1. **Outdoor use had to be stated.** Every pick here names patios, decks, camping or backyards in its own listing copy. The W4W coils go further and say outdoor only, which rules out any indoor fallback.

Two things I could not screen for, and you should know it. First, effectiveness. Three of these seven work by producing smoke, and whether that's acceptable on your patio is a judgment I can't make from a spec sheet.

## Why coverage radius decides this, not weight

Here's the trick with radius claims. They describe a zone the manufacturer engineered for, in still air. Wind moves smoke and vapour, and KICKOUTOR states outright that wind may affect burn time on its sticks. So treat the published figure as the ceiling and plan for less. If your seating area measures 12 feet across, buy for 20, not for 10.

## What does the lightweight part of a lightweight outdoor mosquito repellent actually mean?

Amazon's search doesn't filter on weight, so "lightweight" isn't a specification any of these seven listings is verified against. None of them is marketed as a lightweight product. That means I can't tell you which one satisfies that qualifier, and I won't pretend the data does.

What you can compare are the published weights and dimensions, and they tell you something useful about what fits in a bag.

Three of the seven don't publish a weight at all. GOOTOP's listed dimensions of 0.79 x 0.79 x 0.79 in are clearly a data entry error against a 2.16 lb product, which is a reminder that listing tables aren't always right.

My read: judge portability on shape, not mass. The KICKOUTOR sticks are 13 inches long, which won't fit a small pack no matter how little they weigh. The Fuel-ZoneGuard Base is a 6.5-inch column that drops into a side pocket. That's the difference that matters on a camping trip.

Thermacell claims a 20ft zone here and calls it the largest protection zone of all EPA registered mosquito repellents. That's the brand's statement, not a measurement of mine, but it is double the W4W coil's 10-foot figure and 5 feet more than Thermacell's own Fuel-ZoneGuard Base. On area, that's a meaningful step. The unit is compact at 4.75 x 4 x 4 in, comes in black, and pairs a 12-hour battery with a charging dock, so an evening runs off a charge rather than a fuel cartridge.
